Use Agent Approve

Voice Follow-up

Answer an agent completion prompt from your iPhone and return the message to a live agent session.

Voice Follow-up is off by default. When enabled, it lets you send another instruction after a supported agent finishes a turn. You can type the reply, use voice transcription, or send a prepared quick response.

Turn it on

Open Agent Approve settings and enable Voice Follow-up.

The setting currently applies to the account. It cannot be enabled for one agent or Hermes profile and disabled for another.

What must be true

  • The selected integration must support follow-up messages.
  • Voice Follow-up must be enabled.
  • The agent process must still have a live session that can receive the reply.

For Hermes Agent, Voice Follow-up works only with the classic interactive CLI. Gateway sessions, hermes chat -q, --oneshot, cron jobs, and Kanban workers cannot accept the returned message. Approvals and activity monitoring still work in those modes. See Hermes profiles and Voice Follow-up for the complete limitation.

The prompt shows a countdown and waits for up to five minutes from the time the request was created. The countdown turns red near the end. If no reply arrives, Agent Approve sends no follow-up message and the completed turn remains finished. This timeout does not approve or deny a command.

Supported integrations

Support means the integration has a path for returning text to a live session. A one-shot command can still exit before a reply has somewhere to go.

Why the native agent may still look busy

The stop hook waits inline for your reply or for the five-minute timer to expire. Some native agent apps continue to show a working state during that wait even though the turn has finished.

Responding to the Voice Follow-up request closes the wait. Dismissing its compact banner also resolves the request without sending a message. You can instead use the native agent's stop or escape action. Some agents accept a newly submitted prompt immediately; others queue it until you choose an available Send now or steering action, resolve the follow-up, or the timer expires.

If this wait disrupts your normal workflow, turn off Voice Follow-up. You can leave Agent Completion on and send the next prompt through the agent's own app.

Multiple follow-up requests

Requests from different agents are kept together. Swipe horizontally to move between them, or respond to the current request and the next one will appear. A newer request from the same agent replaces that agent's older request.

Closing the sheet with the X does not resolve the request. It remains pending until you reopen it, respond, or its timer expires.

The pill label is only a shortcut. Review the full message in this table before relying on a response whose wording matters.

Give me more time does not add time to the current countdown. It sends an instruction that asks the live agent to wait. When the agent completes that short turn, a new supported stop event can open a fresh follow-up window.

Voice transcription

You can use the microphone built into the iOS keyboard. Agent Approve also provides its own microphone button for devices or keyboards that do not show one.

Tap the Agent Approve microphone to start recording, then tap it again to stop. The transcription is placed in the text field so you can review it before tapping Send. Speech Recognition and Microphone permissions are both required. See iPhone permissions if recording does not start.

If no follow-up opens

First check that Voice Follow-up is enabled. Then confirm that the integration supports the feature and that the agent session is still open. See Voice Follow-up did not open for a focused checklist.
